Sequel?
....any talk of a sequel?
shareI agree, having a sequel would suck.
shareWhy not? It feels like Gosslings attempt at a "Taken" like franchise anyway. Since that is the best some actors can hope for now. Vapid action flicks that make money..... This one did not make money though so maybe Gossling can do some cologne ads or something.
shareI would welcome a sequel to expand on more adventures of this character further down the line. Not much backstory needs to be added to kill the mystery, like Clint Eastwood's trilogy, but I would still like some.
shareThe novel is very different from the movie itself and there's a sequel.
I can't say I liked the novel better, which is weird because usually its better but this movie I almost think had a better story.
The Driver in the story is way more of a freelancer than what you see in the movie, though I won't spoil it for you.
Knowing he's more of a freelancer in the novel already diminishes the character's otherworldly mysticism. However, knowing there's a second novel, this movie's cult status and this director's subsequent relative failures might push Refn to do one after all *shrugs*.
shareI'm actually reading the sequel right now so I dunno anything about it other than it happens like 7 yrs later.....
So go forward to....2018?
Also -- he was a very simple character - he was Shannon's protege but he was also just a working class mechanic who did criminal jobs on the side.
In the novel Shannon has almost no role. He's a tertiary character....
There are friends who get him work and his name "goes around" -- he's very much more of an opportunist and self-promoter in the book, though he's still go that cool edge to him...
I hope not, ignoring the fact that most sequels suck, this isn't a real sequel type of movie.
shareyou sure do love reminding everyone you know how to read
shareI would love to see a 2nd part. Hopefully with another awesome soundtrack!
shareI could imagine a sequel anthology style: having the same tone, but different characters in a different setting, the idea of driving being the only connecting element contentwise. Any other solution would corrupt this great movie.
shareBut the film is not about driving cars, per se, it's about what motivates us, what drives us, what we're after and what we are capable of doing in order to attain it.
Anyway, regarding a sequel and whether or not the ending is perfect, Refn had this to say just recently: "No, there will never be a second Drive movie. [...] It ends too imperfectly. And that's why it works."
