why doesnt he talk?

I mean he looks great & all that good stuff but its like he just says one word at a time LOL. I don't think he's autistic w/e but its like nothing ever comes to his mind. seems weird! its like he rather kick ass w/o a word. but the movie was kinda cool. definitely different.

He's a man of economy. If he doesn't have to talk, then he doesn't talk. I like it, it fits in with the tight-lipped "man with no name" heros of the past.

I agree! "Man with no name heroes". He's one of those strong but silent types. He only speaks when he has to and when he needs to. It makes him more badass. It's like one of the special forces mottos, "Quiet Professionals".

Also one-liners get old, while quietness remains cool for all time.

The Driver doesnt talk for a few reasons. The film doesnt delve into his past but in the book his mother killed his father in front of him. Also his father took him robberies as a child and didnt have much use for him besides that. He also has a ferocious temper which is a reason he keeps his distance from people

This.

Do you see all quiet types as having neuro-developmental disorders?
I found it made him seem deep in thought, he didn't need to be heard all the time. Which made what he did say all the more important.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

Exactly 👍

As a quiet guy myself, I know this to be true.

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

reply

I dont mind him being a silent mysterious person with an obvious personality disorder but my issue is NOBODY in the movie appears to really question this as if its normal.

reply

So being quiet is a personality disorder now? What's with all the mental health professionals roaming around here.

reply

He talks, he's just quiet, not your normal Hollywood hero for sure but that's what made his character alot more interesting IMO.

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

reply

I fully agree. The Driver only talks when necessary. I saw this movie with my girlfriend last night and she bitched about his silence, saying stuff to me like "What's his problem? Cant he open his mouth?" I just laughed, and then she turned around and said I do the same thing at times and she never knows why and I don't bother telling her, but one thing's for sure, it keeps you interesting just like the dude in this terrific movie.

reply

For sure, talk is cheap and not everybody love their voice to the point they feel they need to express their opinion on everything all the time.

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

reply

He doesn't talk? I didn't think he would ever shut up!

Just kidding, lol!

He barely says a word. He is a variation of "the man with no name" like in the spaghetti westerns of the 60's starring Clint Eastwood, and also his later westerns in the 70's and 80's.
