Comparison to The Driver (1978)

I think the character is (physically and psychically) like the copy of the Ryan O'Neal character (Hmmm... Ryan?) in The Driver: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077474/?ref_=nv_sr_5
Anyone else notice similarities?

I finally watched Drive last night and it did make me think of The Driver, albeit briefly. The Driver is about 100 times better than Drive though, IMHO

Yes, absolutely. Both are tall, blond, blue-eyed, laconic, L.A.-dwelling wheelmen / loners with icy stares and spartan apartments who prefer not to carry guns and have the same name: The Driver.

I love "The Driver"! Great movie. Got to see it in a new print at the Museum of Modern Art about a decade ago.

The Driver had that late 70s look, but I liked the look of Drive better than The Driver except for Ryan Gosling's jacket. It executed the story better, too.

I am sure the makers of Drive said that it was heavily influenced by The Driver.
