Only God Forgives

What does everyone think of Only God Forgives?

Only God Forgives was a strange film in my opinion. All the characters were awful people. At times it was confusing.

The movie had a cool aesthetic, but it made little sense. I guess it was existentialism or something, but it left me feeling bad. Maybe an exposition of cruelty in the world.

The police captain was not a bad person. He was supposed to be the opposite. An angle of vengeance who had to set everything right and bring everyone guilty to justice. Everyone he killed was guilty.

I agree the film was shot beautifully but it was really boring, I found it hard to connect with any of the characters.

It took awhile for me to like it - but after the halfway point, I sort of got the film. I agree that Kristin Scott Thomas was superb in that film - her's was the standout performance in that. I admit that style of the film can put some people off it, and I understand that.

Pretty good. It's pretty self indulgent but I liked it.

I was a little hyped going into it. I had seen Drive recently before and the trailer for OGF is great.

Amazing to look at, I sound like a child when I say I love the colors. Kristin Scott Thomas was menacing and brutal. The opening line "time to meet the devil ," is a dark way to start the film, considering what follows.

I liked it more the second time. Not great, but not bad like a lot of people think.

If "smoke and mirrors" was used literally, the brutally beaten image of Ryan Gosling would be next to a definition. Beautiful to look at, even with its gratuitous bloodletting, and wonderfully acted by Kristen Scott Thomas, but a vastly disappointing followup to "Drive". I have sympathy for Refn due to what we find out in "My Life Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn" about his dilemmas over the film, but not for the final product.

Same mysterious vibe as Drive but I think the movie was more focused on the aesthetics than the story

Superbly shot, lots of nice, saturated colors. The movie pops visually and has a great premise, but I felt underwhelmed with the plot and characters.

Just imagine Drive, but suck out the substance, and go even farther with the violence. It does have a pretty awesome hand-to-hand fight scene though I must say.

Honestly I loved it.
We all go to the movies for different reasons.
Films, for me, are another form of art, and Only God Forgives is an experience, rather than just a movie.
The visuals and the soundtrack alone are outstanding.
I personally love the themes of familial and other violence and thirst for control and revenge.
The colours, the symbolism, the photography. I really loved it.
I just watched The Neon Demon at the cinema and LOVE that too.
I really want to see more Winding Refn, and have to say I have not yet seen Drive! I came here to read the boards to see if I might like it... it SEEMED like some kind of normal Hollywood hero fare, which is not my usual cup of tea...
Ryan Gosling, working class hero, saves the girl?
Am I right? Should I watch it?

Did you?
