I'm in love with this movie

For me it's just perfect. The story, the characters, the cinematography, the score.

It's my favorite movie of all time, and i could watch it forever.
But i'm looking for similar movies. Do you know any?
I've seen The Guest and The Place Beyond the Pines.

dead man's shoes.
once upon a time in america.

You may have seen these, not sure how old you are or where you're from, or if it matters and you've probably seen nightcrawler.

i'm tired of dancing here all by myself

reply

Thanks a lot :-)

Nightcrawler i've seen but not the other 2. Im 27.

In terms of characters, score & use of music, cinematography, top notch acting etc., check out John Wick and Room (2015). Both brilliant unique movies.

reply

Thanks :-) i've seen both of them though.

Same. It's up there for me. I think it's one of the best examples of what execution and good cinematography, direction, score can do for film. Everything else is stripped back which gives these ither factors time and space to shine. That to me is pure cinema. Love it.

Yes! Exactly.

Meh, definitely some really cool scenes. Well executed and realized along with an interesting music score but the script, the contrived scenarios, the implausibilities, culminating with the goofy, magical ending...they were too much for me and so for that reason, I'm out.

Surprised that no one has mentioned 2004's Collateral. While not as artsy and stylish as Drive, it's also a character driven "action" movie that also have that same dark, night time Los Angeles atmosphere of Drive.

I saw Drive 11 times in theaters when it first came out.
It's currently playing at a small theater nearby all this coming week and I saw it twice today.
I too searched for movies like this, and even went back and watched Refn and Gosling's catalog of movies but nothing comes close.
There is something so captivating and intriguing anout this film and I never tire of seeing it.
I belong to a couple of movie groups and we see roughly 2-5 movies a week.
Some that stick in my mind are:
The Lobster
Christine (not Stephen King's)
Patterson
Mammoth
Amy
Ex Machina
American Honey

That's funny. Do you live in Pittsburgh by chance? There is a movie theater that is having "anti-hero" movie week, with Drive being one of the films showing.

reply

Yes. Up to 4x this week.
