Wow, what an underappreciated, brilliant movie! This movie is mostly interesting visually. I can't imagine this movie being handled by some other director. Would you recommend Neon Demon if I liked this movie? I don't like to waste my time with just "okay" movies.
I wish Oscar Isaac was in this movie more, though. Can we just have Oscar Isaac in every movie? He's so good.
I can understand where you're coming from and this movie is definitely a "style over substance" kind of movie.. But can you imagine what this movie would've been if it was done by a different director? It's like The Conjuring Movies.. Sort of generic movies but highly stylized.. However, I liked the characters and the story too but it's mostly the style that holds this movie higher than most..
Oh man... The neon demon is just such a great film. I loved Drive. Only God Forgives had its moments but overall I just couldn't get into it unfortunately. Ever since I saw the trailers for the neon demon I was getting more and more excited but skeptical at the same time because there was a possibility that he was moving in a Direction with his films in which they were becoming more Art House, in the sort of sslloooww way, that I really have to be in a certain mood to enjoy. That simply was not the case with the neon demon. The first viewing was absolutely wonderful, beautifully shot, very dark and sinister, with just the right touch of "art house" meets "horror". And the pacing was terrific in my opinion. I rented it On Demand and ended up watching it 3x over the course of 48 hours that I had it rented for. The whole cast was so perfectly cast and it has a third Act that I absolutely did not see coming. I was very relieved to find that my expectations were even surpassed.
Been looking forward to watching for a long time.. Unfortunately such movies don't come out in theatres where I live so I'll have to wait for the BluRay and Digital HD releases
