-wouldn't make wolverine the title character (obviously) -would have loved to see more interaction between storm and rogue, and especially gambit and rogue -i didnt mind having gambit as a neutral character at first, but i think he should have definitely joined the xmen at some point in the series. -rogue, iceman and forge..not bad characters, but they were too young. im not sure why the creators of tv series/movies always depict rogue and iceman as teenagers, but whatever. rogue should have her ms. marvel powers at some point as well. -cyclops was kinda weak too....storm was pretty much useless
The series in general needed to do a better job of spreading the character focus around instead of wasting precious screen time on Wolverine having a watered down G-rated fight with the Hulk or Wolverine rescuing the X-Men from a bunch of lame ninjas (I mean really ninjas? *beep* ninjas?).
As for Rogue & Iceman constantly being depicted as teenagers (except for the 90s series) well I think the movies are at fault there (much like the movies are at fault for convincing the world that Wolverine is the true surrogate son & Heir to Xavier's Dream instead of Cyclops, a stereotype the comics have unfortunately adopted as well - or were halfway there anyway). The movies made Rogue & Iceman teenagers (keeping in mind that when Iceman first appeared in the comics he was barely 16), and so once that became the general public's perception of the characters it got carried over into animation. Also, Rogue lost her Ms. Marvel powers due to the movies influence on general audiences & new fans, and I don't think we're likely to see her animated with those powers again any time soon.
Cyclops was poorly handled from the start; they couldn't even do his origin properly, and Storm wasn't much better. Cyclops suffered from a poor characterization while Storm suffered from having little to no characterization. Both characters deserved better.
Gambit was fine in the few appearances he had despite a shaky accent, and I suspect he might have had a bigger role later on, but that's just speculation on my part. At the very least, he didn't get beat up some lame random ninjas. ;)
