I want this show back as much as the next guy, but isn't it kind of pointless? Its been off of the air for three years? I know Family Guy was the only exception to this, but 1 million people is a bit extreme especially considering there is only 18,000 people who have liked the page.
Also, where were the writers even planning on going with the whole Jean/Wolverine thing? That would've destroyed the show IMO.
I'm sorry what do you think you're doing?
I don't really advocate bringing the show back, I just thought some might be curious to see the designs.
I don't know what the writers were planning to do with Jean/Wolverine, or if they were planning to do it at all. I think they were leaning more towards Jean/Scott/Emma.
Thanks for sharing that. It is interesting to see the designs at least.
'pay the man'
Sure thing zentaurion. Seems kinda funny that they apparently wanted to go to back to the uniforms Cyclops & Jean had in the 90s, given that series writer Craig Kyle has gone on record saying he hated the 90s X-Men animated series and what Cycke wore in the one season of the show was pretty much his modern costume (though why he had a single suspender hanging off his belt is as much a mystery as why he wore a wrist band in his civilian attire). Then again they had Rogue wearing her 90s costume so who knows.
shareI never knew Craig Kyle said that about the 90's series. No wonder WaTXM had so much wrong with it. Don't get me wrong, it was a good show. But if he had done something about the major flaws, it really could've been great. The 90's show had a much smaller budget, but I believe it had what the fans loved about it most. It had the characters, and the relationships.
The way the characters interacted in WaTXM seemed very artificial. In the 90's version, in contrast, take a small example: When Gambit said "If they be psychic, shouldn't they already know?" (something like that) and Storm replied: "That is not funny, Gambit."
Or almost every dialogue exchange between Gambit and Rogue. Or how Gambit and Wolverine were about to tussle and Rogue dropped the top of the mansion piece around Wolverine. The 90's show just really had the characters done right. I can't even think of a moment when I was like "What is he doing now??" I had many of those moments in WaTXM, where I was like "Why is he/she doing/saying this stupid thing?"
Also, the old characters were just more fun. I absolutely loved Rogue and she's not even one of my favorite characters. I hate that the new millennium seemed to bring about so many emo characters. Sure, the 90's Rogue had her moments, like how she sat on the wing of a plane, being sad and lonely. But wow, it was done in such a creative way. And I actually felt bad for her. In WaTXM, I couldn't care less about Rogue.
Storm was great in the 90's. Became a background character in Evolution. In WaTXM, she was part of the set. WaTXM is a show made for Wolverine fans, which is so short-sighted. They should realize that A. Wolverine is part of a team, and everyone has their favorites, and B. Wolverine is popular, but he's kind of "cooler" in slightly smaller doses. I'm aware that he has his own comic. But still. Just bc he's the most popular, it doesn't mean all the other characters should be set pieces.

W&TXM lacked heart when it came to a lot of the non-Wolverine characters, the core X-Men suffering very badly in this regard. Nightcrawler & Emma Frost had their moments (and I'm not even a Frost fan) but the rest of the X-Men were underwritten or in Cyclops's case written very, very badly.
The 90s series, whatever its weaknesses, still did a better job of capturing the heart and soul of the characters, making you care about them and their relationships, making their relationships feel natural & organic, something that W&TXM just didn't take the time to do because it was too busy with goofy Hulk guest spots and writing about ninjas. Perhaps they felt the X-Men they chose for the roster were iconic or "quintessential" enough that fans could latch on & relate to them easily, but with little to no actual development for them it was hard to care during the action scenes. When the X-Men were fighting for their lives against the Sentinels in the season one finale of the 90s series I actually felt invested in their struggle; when the same scenario played out in W&TXM's finale I found myself not really caring, it was like watching the light-saber duels in the Star Wars prequels, lots of flash but no substance, no characterization.
When Cyclops & Jean Grey had their private little moments together in the 90s series it really felt like they loved each other & would go to Hell & back for each other - despite Wolverine's obvious infatuation with Jean. On W&TXM you didn't get that level of sincerity with Cyclops & Jean, maybe that isn't fair since Jean was MIA for most of the show's run while Emma Frost took center stage, but we're introduced to Cyclops & Jean in a negative light with her chastising him for sucker-punching Wolverine repeatedly in a fit of jealousy, and then you have flashbacks to the past that portray their relationship as an unhealthy case of co-dependency & neediness (playing into the longstanding stereotype that Cyclops has always been inferior to Wolverine & always will be), probably set up that way to indicate that Emma Frost is "The One" Cyclops should be with - an idea the series never really plays with or follows up on, even though Emma had been his girlfriend for 6 or 7 years in the comics up to that point.
Heck, for the most part it feels like the X-Men are barely friends in this series. No one other than Cyclops seemed upset about Jean disappearing (or that she was possibly dead or could possibly still be alive somewhere), no one cared that Cyclops had gone crazy from the heat, etc. How do you care about characters who barely care about each other.
It's so cool seeing the drawings for Jean grey. Makes me really sad that it was cancelled

I could be. ;)
Your style seems awfully familiar.

Yes, I am Panthro at Superhero Hype (formally Dr. Fate - don't ask) and JTMarsh at Toonzone. And who may you be? :)
And now some fan art promoting the return of W&TXM (I don't advocate it myself but the art is nice) -
