My Dream X-men series

Looking through some old comics and old comic book reviews, it just occured to me that the X-men's 'golden age' of sorts was never properly represented on screen; namely the late 70's/early 80's era. It was the era when the X-men really rose to prominence in the Marvel Universe as superheroes and not just students of Xavier's. So far of the three X-men animated series, one portrayed them as superheroes (the 90's show), the other as students (Evolution) and the third one as soldiers fighting an impending war (WATXM). I think something new would be a series about the transition period between the student and superhero phases of the X-men, which arguably happened with Giant Size X-men # 1 in 1975 and the debut of the new team with fan favourites like Wolverine and Nightcrawler.

So basically this is my vision for such as series. It would be called UNCANNY X-MEN. The series would begin with the new X-men team having just been formed and it consists of Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Angel. The major theme of this series would be the X-men come into prominence publically as mutant heroes, Professor X and Cyclops both beginning to cope with the idea of leading a team of diverse mutants from different backgrounds as opposed to the original group of students and the X-men having to deal with newer and more powerful threats to humans and mutants alike.

Among the major storylines of the first season would include the X-men battling Proteus, Alpha Flight's attempts to recapture Wolverine, the Pheonix saga, a flashback to the Krakoa mission that started the team, the Sentinel project and other prominent story arcs from this period (including origin eps focusing on each member). There should also be episodes guest starring other Marvel superheroes.

The second season should begin with the Dark Pheonix saga and Jean's death, which leads to a darkening of Cyclops's personality and Storm taking over the team and should include Days of Future Past and X-men God Kills among other storylines and introduce Shadowcat to the team. Mystique and her new Brotherhood should also be a key focus and Rogue should also be introduced, albeit as a member of the Brotherhood who begins to doubt her allegiances. This season should be somewhat darker as compared to the previous one.

Haven't though about a third season yet, but how about this...

I like it and your forgetting the underrated Pryde of The X-Men pilot which portrayed them as superheroes too and was probably closest to your idea.

Try not to take life too seriously, no one gets out alive.

I want to see something new and I don't want to see stuff that's been over-repeated. Meaning no Phoenix saga.

Oh, I have so many ideas for a new X-Men series! Here's how I would want the new X-Men series to start out:

The first season should introduce the original 5 X-Men (Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey, Beast and Angel) and how they became X-Men. During the second half of the first season, the second generation X-Men (Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, Banshee, Thunderbird, and Sunfire) would be called in to save the original 5 from Krakoa.

The second season would introduce the Dark Phoenix Saga, introducing Kitty Pryde and Dazzler to the cast and after the Dark Phoenix Saga ends, the Days of Future Past Storyline should be introduced and here the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants are first introduced, with Rogue joining them. The end of this season would have it where Rogue joins the X-Men.

The third season would introduce the Age of Apocalypse storyline and introduce Gambit and Jubilee. Once the Age of Apocalypse storyline wraps up, then it will lead to the Legacy Virus storyline where Colossus kills himself to save the mutant race from dying from the virus.

The fourth season would be based off of Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men and have Kitty Pryde come back to the school and Colossus is revived and the X-Men fight on the Breakworld to stop the bullet.

There's more to this set up, but I guess it all depends if the X-Men can run over five seasons.
