Him NOT cheating was the point...he realized to stop spending time with that girl (who had no scruples or reservations about extramarital affairs) and work more on his marriage. Yes, it sucks if you haven't had sex in a marriage for a while, but he made a commitment. I think the point of the movie was to stop overanalyzing everything, be committed, and have BOTH the husband and wife work on their marriage.
