Norah Jones is not getting bashed for her performance

Yes some reviews are not favorable for Jones, but I think pretty much all of them say nothing worse than she was just adequate.

Read more than one review before you start making claims like "Jones is getting bashed."

Here is a review where in the final paragraph states Jones holds the whole movie together.

In the second paragraph in the "critique" she is again praised:

Norah started out a little over-the-top, very 'stage' acting, but she got better as it progressed.

agreed! very 'telegraphed' in the beginning; more natural thereafter.

Oh she's very good at what she has to do. Her character is a bit invisible at times and the supporting actors definately steal the movie from her but it's a wonderful performance, especially for a debut.

you can't blame the blueberry pie, it's just that no one wants it

she wasn't right for the part. she wasn't particularly likeable, which is the biggest flaw imo. she didn't seem all that gullible and trustworthy like the script suggests either. she never smiled the entire movie, not that that's a prerequisite for liking a character. however, if we don't develop some kind of sympathy for our protagonist, anything good/bad that happens to them is just wasted.

i also take issue with the cat power song being repeated ad nauseum. this is WKW 's worst movie so far. ITMFL being the best.

She started out bad.. but got better along the movie, but still, I would bashed her too if I had to write a review.

But even if she was acting GOOD, the movie would not be that much better unfortunately. Ill give it a 6.7 , because of it's potential

I thought she did a great job. Her character was supposed to be soft, a bit naive, and ultimately unsure of who she is for most of the movie, and Norah Jones portrayed that convincingly. A lot of singers who try acting are terrible, they read the lines in a wooden way, and it is impossible to believe them. She held her own for sure.

reply

I don't know. Her performance wasn't terrible. It just seemed to me that a lot of times rather than trying to work with the material, she let the material work her. Then again, much of the dialogue was pretty stilted so I don't know if anyone could've delivered it very well.
