The No Limit Hold'em Scene with Natalie Portman
I was surprised to find that there was a 3 minute poker scene in this movie. Although I thought Natalie Portman did a fine job in it, I didn't like how the scene was written or executed.
First of all, the hand in play was 4 kings vs. straight flush where the hero gets screwed by the miracle river card, which is just too tiresome by this point since almost every movie chooses to portray a crazy unlikely scenario when it comes to poker showdown.
The poker room in general had no feeling of authenticity to it. I don't think I've ever seen a legal public cardroom in the U.S. where they keep the poker room so dimly lit that you cannot see the surroundings behind players and the dealer wears a tank top instead of a proper uniform. And the Aloha character and the dealer were terrible in their short dialogues.
Just sayin'... I wonder if anyone else here found himself scratching his head on this scene.
