three good things about the movie

1.natalie portman
2.rachel weisz

and there isn't a third one

anyway norah jones makes up for the good things in the movie. she is so awful and annoying, her character makes no sense.
i didn't see why they called her journey 'soul-searching'. she was a half-brain, a twit - her stupid void expressions and dialogue had me wanting to pull my hair out, no wait, pull her hair out and scream in her face

boring boring boring.

the movie snails its way to the end. unless you're an insomniac i promise you, you'll fall asleep at some point... enjoy yourself!

1. Rachel Weisz (seemed to be WKW's Carina Lau in this film)
2. Chan Marshall's 2 minutes of screentime
3. Great songs

As far as Norah Jones goes, I agree her acting leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know what's worse sometimes- overacting or underacting. At least she's not held responsible for her dialogue :P

Otherwise... it's barely a shadow compared to his other movies. It seems like a lazy transition into the American market. bleh!

Good point!

For me it is:
Jude Law
Natalie Portman
music...

And I agree with comments to NJ´s acting,I really didn´t like it.

Anilimka

I agree with your 3 choices.

Tiny Fey is a Maverick!

Hmmm I just added this to my Netflix que an hour ago just seeing that it had Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz, and now due to my better judgement and doing research, I'm afraid I just might delete this from my que.. Bummer.

reply

if i were a woman, i would still see it for jude law ;)

reply

Weisz was a typical tragic character, anyone can play that !!!

Portman's character was unbelieveable

both these characters are caricatures of American women and probably why it got canned.....

a bit pretentious

My three good things:

- The actors (well, Norah...).

- Michael Bay has nothing to do with it.

- It didn't work well. That means WKW will stay away of Hollywood, which is poison for asian filmakers (John Woo, Chen Kaige, Hideo Nakata, Takashi Shimizu, etc...).

But I liked the movie, it didn't bore me in any moment.I didn't like the constant repetition of themes, but the director wanted to make a fitting introduction to his work to a wider audience, not the ground-breaking piece filmcritics were expecting. He can't be blamed for that (the same happened with Takashi Miike's "Imprint").

reply

well good filmmakers should break that cultural barrier and make something universal.

David Stratharin was absolutely great as the alcoholic husband. I can't believe so many posters overlooked his performance, I thought Rachael Wisz was good also at the site where her husband was killed. I too like looking at pretty actresses but I feel some of you posters judge actresses by looks instead of how they really act.....Somebody had to say it...LOL

reply

haha. for me i think it would be:

1)Jude Law
2) Jude Law's Hair
3)the kiss

I wish I could think of something witty to put here... but I can't.
