One thing which has not been discussed on this board
So there is a pretty strong link between the 2 encounters Elisabeth has.
1. RW's character thinks she hates her husband and wants to break free. When he dies, she discovers this is more painful than anything before (if I remember her words correctly)
2. NP's character thinks she hates her father. The he dies, and she's broken-hearted.
The main message which Elisabeth apparently had to learn is somewhere here.
You need to enjoy things which you might think you hate but you actually don't (like the blueberry pie - a good metaphore!)
I'm not entirely sure what did she learn in the end though.
That she wanted to escape NY because she thought she hated the place, but then realised that her happiness is actually there?
What do you guys think?
When I get sad I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.
