What the hell is wrong with Hollywood?

Ok. I can understand full well that the Magic Roundabout never got to the states so certain things had to be changed so that they wouldn't be confused about it.

Like changing the title to Doogal because it does focus on him as a reluctant hero and the roundabout itself doesn't really play much role in it.

That was the only change I agree with.

Why change the voices? Why? WHY?? What was wrong with Joanna Lumley as Ermintrude? Or Jim Broadbent as Brian?

The casting was perfect and needed no changing. Neither did the script! Leave the dialogue along and stop butchering other people's writing!

It seems that everything that passes Hollywood's way that can be "adapted" is run through a dog food mixer and then diegested by a large sweaty texan. Then what comes out is put into the cinemas for the public. Take any japanese horror that has been remade.

Now I'm a fan of most of the people providing the new voices, Chevy Chase and Whoopi Goldberg are hilarious. William H. Macy never seems to put a foot wrong. But changing the cast of this film purely to give new accents is just plain stupid.

And as for "From the creators of Fairly Odd Parents".... what the hell? The animation was Bolex Bros. and Pathe so far to my knowlage and the creator was french.

And to all those who say "England took the french series and changed everything" I say this is true... and we took a tiny little series than no-one really liked and made it a TV legend. This film is just Hollywood trying to suck away parents money at the expence of quality.

Shame on you Hollywood... shame on you.

I agree with you. But I don't think it would have been too hard to figure out what a roundabout was once we saw it. I think the Fairly Odd Parents guy wrote the changes or whatever, woo hoo. I liked both versions a lot but I know what you mean, it should have been left alone, but I'm not sure it would have done any better here. Most of us didn't grow up watching it, so we knew nothing about theses characters. It's a shame, but you can't fault a guy for trying to make a buck.

reply

True... but he earns enough money off fairly odd parents which is a good cartoon. Doesn't need to ruin someone elses.

I agree. It's not like we don't know who Judy Dench is or Ian McKellan, if those stupid execs were thinking we wouldn't want to see it because it's all British-voice-acted. In fact, it's because the voices were replaced that my fiance downright refused to see it, and from what reviews I've been reading, he's right. Apparently not only did they put in a pointless narrator, but they changed the script. I hope the British version will be available on DVD here in the states.

Also it's odd that Joanna Lumley can do a voice in a Tim Burton movie and audiences have no problem. So why replace her in this movie?

reply

joanna lumley's famous here too, most people probably know who she is, but it would be very hard to find anyone here who doesn't know who whoopi goldberg is. even kids know her because she had her own cartoon and does kids 'stuff' a lot.
