it's pretty bad. the worst part is the referrences to other movies every 2 seconds. humor was terrible.

you can tell that the HUGE stars only signed up because of the animation. but it's gotten to where computer animation has just replaced drawn and is no longer awesome every time. disney pixar is the only hope for it.

This film is a dubbed version of the British/French film, THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT. Dougal (not "Doogal") and the other characters were very popular in Europe (they were in a series of stop-motion shorts since the 60s, which were featured in a kids' program on Nickelodeon in the mid-to-late 80s). But no matter how well-known THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT was, the Weinsteins had to mess it up. They were just trying to make a quick buck to one-up Pixar. The dubbing smacks of the usual cynicism. Bathroom jokes and pop-culture references. The original was never like this.

Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino may be their best talent, but the Weinsteins don't give the same respect to other films. Classic victims include Richard Williams' ill-fated animated masterpiece THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER (as ARABIAN KNIGHT) and *numerous* HK kung fu films (with badly-redone soundtracks). It's unforgivable.

The movie just didn't make any sense. In one scene, a "Pirates of the Carribean"-spoofed skeleton asks Doogal what he's doing, and Doogal responds in a terrible English accent, "just a muggle off to Hogwarts away from He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, anything else governor?"

That's not even an accurate spoof. There are no GOVERNORS in Harry Potter, just a MINISTER of Magic. If you're going to spoof, at least do it right.

Also, that scene where Doogal smacks while chewing his gum? Nails on a chalkboard, I tell you.

nerd alert!
only kidding.

i think "governor" is a jab at the brits. you know because harry potter is a british film. hence the "terrible english accent".
and i believe your quote is off by a few details because it made perfectly good sense to me. i think it's one of the best lines doogal has.

... "Governor" is a slang term. For what, I can't recall, but you can interchange it with "mate" or "buddy" or something.

Anyhow, the movie was still god-awful.

It's nice for little kids, but I thought it was just bland and pointless with no character develepment and dum jokes. There are plenty of other kid movie I would watch with my brother that I like, like- Toy Story, well to much, but definatly not this one.

Governor, or 'guvnor' is a term of 'respect' used by Londoners, usually Eastenders, and a little dated...
