US version vs UK version

This just shows how the out of touch US marketing execs (who don't watch the stuff they make) can get things so wrong!
Overall I'm sure the US version will get them their blood money but it's a shame they had to stoop this low.
If they could have got away with it I'm sure Harry Potter would have been from the midwest. It just shows the contempt studios have for the American audience. They think we 'don't get it' or can't understand it. That's why they constantly remake British tv shows and ALWAYS fall short of the originals.
This is like setting the Dukes of Hazzard in Stoke On Trent...
I just hope the DVD will contain both versions.

Actually, it's the other way around. Not to generalize, but, the hell with it, Americans are the audience these movies have to be refitted for. Ever seen Leon? They had to cut out a bunch of crap in the American version because they deemed it wrong.

Besides, it's not just Americans who remake films. People all around the world, including the English, remake films from everywhere, including the States.

I agree that they may be refitted for financially driven reasons. To be inclusive to as many ticket buyers seems to be the reason though. I have nothing against remakes, but this was a slap in the face. Even John Stewart admitted he had been duped. He said he was told it was European, so he thought English dubbing was needed for the US market.

The TV networks are the worst culptits. They killed Men behaving badly, coupling and many others. They also successfully translated many too. My gripe is the suits that think we won't appreciate the original version of things like Life on Mars.

There are various websites with British tv on them. I think the execs would be surprised at how many Americans use them.

The UK has a nice variety of tv from around the world. We really have homegrown only, which is a shame.

Anyone ever watch that Americanized, bastardized movie version of Doctor Who? That movie alone could have destroyed the entire franchise. (I'm American, by the way).
