THE Pop! Duo totally reminded me of...

The Pop! duo, although I know know that it is supposed to spoof Wham! reminded me of NSYNC when I was watching it. Granted, I didn't grow up during the '80s lol.

But The young guy reminded me of Justin T and Hugh Grant's character reminded me of JC Chasez.

Did they remind you of any now broken up bands?

An onion can make people cry, but there is no vegetable invented to make them laugh.

Heyup, Puddle!
It's funny how we can find points of reference regardless of whether we were actually "there" at the time, so your NSYNC feeling, while being a little anachronistic, definitely has merit. It could be the carefully controlled image and cheesy performance that makes the link there.
Me, I'm a child of the 70s, 10 in 1970, 20 in 1980, so although I was around to see the whole 80s thing I'm definitely NOT a fan of the "decade of shame".
There were quite a few bands that would have been in that vein (vain?). For us antipodeans there were Kids in the Kitchen, Pseudo Echo and The Models, as well as the international excess of INXS, Spandau Ballet, Flock of Seagulls, Human League, Soft Cell, etc. etc. a little bit of all of whom can be seen in the hysterical posing of PoP!

I thought they were part Wham! and Duran Duran. Hugh Grant was the Andrew Ridgley to the movies version of George Michael. The band as a whole was Duran Duran. The knock off of Nick Rhodes was dead on. I loved this movie. I laughed so hard at the Pop Goes My Heart Video, so classic 80s. It brought back many fun memories.

Yeah, the cringe factor I felt watching that music video shows how well they put the look and style of 80s video-pop together. Damn, that song was(?) catchy. I thought Alex's performance at the school reunion was fun and showed the power of a cheesy pop chorus with all the now-older fans singing along. I also had a giggle at all the bored/pissed husbands & dates sitting back at the tables looking on unimpressed.

As a 80's teen/HUGE fan of Wham! I couldn't miss the obvious "Meaningless Kiss/Careless Whisper" connection. That song was a dead on replica, complete with the heavy sax, and same theme. Of Course Wham! also had the song Wham!, as Pop! had Pop!Goes My heart. Kudos to the songwriters for this movie, they really nailed the 80's pop, as well as the current "Pop-tarts."

Don't forget Tears for Fears and Aha.

And the cheesy video was right out of Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me with Science."

Yeah, Meaningless Kiss was a Careless Whisper spoof BIG TIME! I noticed a lot of the mannerisms and dancing of the other guy in the video were reminiscent of George Michael as well.

But it's really a mixed bag, meant to mock many 80's bands. There are little hints of different bands all over the place. But it's all recycled anyway, which is why it reminded you of some of those 90's bands. I was trying to explain the concept of a little band called "Hanson" to a Jonas Brothers fan the other day, hee hee.
