'Way Back Into Love' stolen by the Mystery Jets

Has anyone else noticed how the band Mystery Jets seem to have taken a little bit of 'Way Back Into Love' from Music and Lyrics and put it into their new single 'Young Love'?

I think its really really wicked.

what the heck.

HOW are they getting away with this? it's basically the exact melody! except for the fact that hugh grant sounds WAY better singing it.

reply

this is insane, the melody is identical, not a single note of difference. schlesinger should sue these talentless limeys. someone should email his management or whoever owns the rights to the song.

reply

Um no. I think they just got inspired and tweaked it alot. and besides this was last year, nobody wont really care that much unless you noticed it before.

reply

LMAO, Hugh Grant sounds WAY better singing it? WTF are you on? And can I have some?

"Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place."

reply

They totally ripped off of "Way Back Into Love."

reply

No wonder I thought it sounded familiar... I did wonder where i'd heard it... I decided it was my favourite track on the album within moments of hearing it.

Thanks for the headsup.

How do they get away with tings like this?

Last film I watched:
Music and Lyrics - 10/06/2008

They could probably get sued but I doubt the owners of "Music & Lyrics" would bother.

America put the "fun" back into "Fundamentalism".

no, its sounds more like pop goes my heart.

reply

OMG, that's such a rip-off!

reply

dude... mystery jets guy in the green shirt looks like Edward Scissor Hands... And i don't care how much something seems to be inspired by something else. That was pure plagerism. Were we all not told that if you use a certain number of words you have to cite your sources... Didn't ColdPlay, Madonna, Avril Lavigne ... even the Beatles called out on plagarism... and they only used short portions of the melody... this is the entire freakin' song in fast forward!!!

reply

Absolutely! George got sued for "My Sweet Lord" sounding like "He's So Fine" and that was total crap. This is much more blatantly plagiarism. Too bad. They may be cute but they blew it here. Plagiarism is so not cool.

reply

I'd say it does not repeat enough notes to be plagiarism. It's just derivative and cr@ppy.

"Way Back Into Love" itself has some opening bars that are very close to an actual '80s Britpop hit. It's been on the tip of my tongue ever since I saw this movie a few days ago. Let me see if I can remember it . . .
EDIT: The song is "Head Over Heels" by Tears for Fears. Anybody agree?

reply

I just have to say, in all fairness, 'My Sweet Lord' does have the same structure and melody as 'He's So Fine'. Just a comment. I love the song and George, but, we have to be rational about these things.

I agree that this song is a lot like 'Way Back Into Love', but there are a finite number of chord progressions in this universe, and also a finite number of accepted, Western pop-music-styled ways to arrange a song. So it very well might have been a complete coincidence, or, as Mr. Harrison was ultimately charged with, 'inadvertent plagiarism' because they watched the movie and subconsciously took in the song.

The "if I only knew your name" part sounds very similar, but the rest doesn't. I would be ticked off by it if Way Back Into Love wasn't already a rip-off of Head over Heels by Tears for Fears.
