Had This Movie Been Given A Cinematic Release....

If this film had been released in theaters do you think Drew Barrynore would have received a nomination from the acadamy for "Best Supporting Actress" and if so do you think she could have beaten Sandra Bullock and gotteen the trophy?

Sorry if something like this has been posted before...

You mean Best Leading Actress? Personally I think if this movie had been released theatrically it would have been released at the end of 2008. In which case I think Barrymore would have been nominated in lead, Lange in supporting with Winslet beating Barrymore but Lange winning over Cruz.

Both women would have definitely been nominated, that's for sure. I wish it had been released thetrically - I would've loved to watch it on the big screen.
But why do you think Lange would be nominated for supporting? Her part is just as important, and gets about the same amount of time, as Barrymore.

I just think the studio would have campaigned them in seperate categories because it's far more difficult for the same film to be nominated twice in one acting category at the Oscars than at the Emmys. I actually did see the film on the big screen at the Gaze Film Festival in Dublin last year. It was spectacular.

If everyone in it hadn't won 90 awards I'd be very surprised.

I think Drew Barrymore would have been nominated for the Academy Award in the Best Leading Actress category and Jessica Lange would definitely have been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, if not in the leading category also. If "Grey Gardens" had been given a cinematic release, I believe both Drew and Jessica would have been front-runners in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories. Drew and Jess's performances in "Grey Gardens" put Sandra Bullock's to shame, period!

Honestly, Drew deserved it more than Sandra Bullock. Too bad it wasn't released theatrically.

Such a regret it didn't have a theatrical run ... my god, the possibilities! Lange would have won also over Bullock, hands down.
