I'm a little confused about the whole Whitney thing

Clay says several times that she was missing for well over a month. Was she chained up in Jason's lair that whole time? It would seem rather pointless and uncharacteristic of him to not have killed her on the spot.

Maybe cramming the entire franchise into 6 days wasn't the best idea I've ever had, because I'm just lost on this one. Was it just poorly written or am I missing something?

Technically it wouldn't be uncharacteristic because this is new-Jason but yes, you are correct, she was held captive for a time. During which Jason must have fed her, and provided amenities (a bucket if nothing else). And this is one of the few "I'm sorry but I'm just not having that" aspects of the movie for me. My Jason doesn't take hostages, let alone provide 3 meals a day for them during their "stay" at Chez-Voorhees.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was really lost there. I'm not too psyched about this new hostage-taking Jason. He's never done that before in the 28 years he was around before the most recent installment, so why would he do it now? It just doesn't seems to serve mush of a purpose.

"Mom! The toilet's in love with Andy!"

Hostage taking and hostage taking care of, warning trip lines with little bells, and underground dwelling with collection of knikknacks were all apart of this new reimagining of the character by the writers (iirc there's words to that effect in the imdb trivia). They must have thought it a good idea to bring new life into a very very old movie character, though imho they took away what was great about him, and blandified him by turning him into just another forest dwelling killer that we've seen time and time again.

Jason has her chained up because ahe looks like his mother at a younger age.

I actually think this version is really interesting and creepy for the series.

It's kind of like Part 2's Jason expanded.

What I don't understand is that if Whitney was suppose to be kept, why use the last shot that was made? Last we see, the machete looks like it will cut Whitney's fingers off and maybe go into her torso.
