Coach as a teacher?

Throughout the series it's mentioned that coach is a teacher as well, but did we ever officially find out what he teaches? I'm assuming phys ed/health but not sure....??

He was likely a substitute teacher.

History? lol/

Two of the football coaches at my high school were also my teachers at one point or another.

One taught computer class and the other taught US history.

I just finished watching the entire series (finished it in 3 weeks) and I don't ever remember them mentioning he was a teacher at all, which I found odd because most high school football coaches ARE teachers at the schools (gym or health).

I don't think he was a teacher because he was ALWAYS in the coaches office in the locker room. Even during the school days because at some points his wife (or players) would visit him during the school day.

Maybe it is just assumed the Coach taught PE also.
There was the one part where when he came back he wasn't getting enough money so they made him Athletic Director too and that was part time. Never during any of that did they mention teaching or income from that.

Ephemeron.

As I mentioned some time ago I think he was likely a substitute teacher. He only mentioned homework a couple times throughout the series, and we never saw him in a classroom or even gym room environment, which hinted that he was not a full time/consistent teacher. But yes, if a high school is incredibly sports focused it's not unusual for the coach to only be the coach.

He was a "teacher of young men". That's what quality coaching of young people is supposed to be.

As far as a "real teacher" it looks like he is not. Although in "Sort of Homecoming" S4/E4 Eric is working on getting Vince and Luke to get along and he tells them he has papers to grade which would indicate outside of football at Dillon EAST.

Texas has it's own way of doing things regarding High School Football. I played HS football in Nebraska and all of my coaches at one level or another were "teachers". The budget there for only coaches positions was not available. Our head coach was also my math teacher.

If there's a way to screw something up, the "O'Commie regime" will find it EVERY SINGLE TIME!!

Same deal where I went to school. All the coaches, head coaches anyway, were full time teachers as well because the school couldn't pay them enough to only coach. They taught something, usually some history class, computers or PE/health, and then got additional pay to coach a sport. That's the way it is for most public schools.

Until I played in college all my coaches taught full time. US History, Math, Athletics

in one episode, the one where Coach McGill made the stupid statements, Coach Taylor went to see him in his "Driver's Ed" class, that he was teaching.
