Was Matt Saracen the perfect guy or what?!?

First of all, here was a boy who put his grandmother first- how can you not love that? Plus, he's sensitive yet manly, and gorgeous to boot! Then he picks up and all on his own moves from a small town in Texas to Chicago!

More evidence? One need look no further than the penultimate episode of season 5, when he appears at the end with a Christmas tree to his grandmother's house- the smile on his face was so beautiful, and his love for his grandmother so true *sigh*

Seriously, do they make men like Matt anymore?

reply

Yep, he was an extremely well rounded and likeable guy.

reply

He never lost patience with Grandma. He was a great kid. He sure did mumble.

reply

and he banged the crap out of Guadalupe, got him ready to do the same thing to Julie

reply

I just realized today though that he left for Chicago without a word to Julie. Then didn't answer her calls or call her for months.

reply

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. But that makes him even braver in my eyes for totally going it on his own. I don't think I could do that!

reply

I missed that he did that because saw him driving away from above but just assumed he'd told Julie goodbye. He came back and she forgave him and they seem to be friends now. Now she just did the deed with a teachers assistant at college. I could swear she was just recently 15!

reply

the way it was written and edited it was sort of implied that goodbye in the car meant he was leaving town. I think at the end of that episode Tami asks her what's wrong and she says something about Matt being gone.

reply

looks brains talent wealth. Saracen had none of those.

reply

Whew, I loved Matthew, so feel free to go after JD! Less competition for me Lol!

reply

Uhhh no, that stutter is incredibly annoying, and he is actually a really boring and conventional person. He's a good guy and it's nice he took care of his grandma but 0/10 would not date

reply

This is why I continually say that Matt Saracen has to go down as one of the most likable and sympathetic characters in all of television history. Even though he made mistakes, his heart was always in the right place and it was simply impossible not to root for them. He has to be one of the main reasons why the whole Matt and Julie romance was such a fan favorite and an enormous draw to the show, especially during the first season. Never has teen love been portrayed more honestly, innocently and more believably

reply

i always thought the reason Matt left was sorta the after math from what happen in S4E5 plus that intern probably help a little bit to do with it also but not saying goodbye to Julie was a big nono
