I'm a few episodes into season 3. I thought it was all wrapped up that Smash was going the historically black good academic university. Now all of a sudden, he's interested in Texas A & M?
Also, I'm pretty sure Lila was over Tim at the end of Season 2 and was interested in Matt Czuchry. Now, in season 3 she's dating him again?! Is she still a devout Christian like she was in season 2?
I'm just gonna repeat a reply I gave to a recent poster who had similar questions:
There was pressure on FNL to garner more viewers in its second season, because it was likely renewed due to its acclaim alone. Wanting to get a bigger audience is probably the main reason we saw so many ill-conceived plot developments and less football. Season two then abruptly ended because of a writer's strike. Many show's seasons were cut short that year. NBC was near cancelling the show before DirecTV agreed to pay a large percentage of production costs so long as they got to air the episodes before NBC.
Season three is a clean slate of a season with hardly any story elements from season two being brought over. In fact, it's best to look at season two as an alternate universe season of the show, as the entire series flows better and makes more sense without it. Seasons 3-5 are all good (especially season four and the second half of season five). And yes, there is more football though not as much as season one (with the exception of probably season four).
I'll add: Season two received a lot of criticism for its half-hearted stories and ridiculous plot turns. After the writer's strike ended and the show was renewed by DirecTV the writers thought it best to move on from the dangling plot threads of season two and start fresh, focusing on the next football season.
