There really arent towns like this right?

Yes, I understand the local High School stars receive some degree of notoriety in their towns, particularly if they're going to a high end D1 school and they're on a team that is a contender.

But there really arent towns where people decades removed from High School live and die with the high school team right? Can someone from a rural part of Texas shed some light on this? Im a big time sports fan, played high school ball in the northeast, went to college out of state, traveled to over 35 states, and needless to say, Ive met people from all over the country and I have never heard of anything like this show portrays where the local "QB1" is an instant celebrity.

It really does represent some small towns here in Texas. I grew up in one similar in North Texas. It wasn't quite to this degree, but literally everyone's lives revolved around the stupid high school football team even though ours was always last place. The town basically shut down for games. The businesses funded the football program to the extent of having the same workout equipment and indoor practice football field to match the Dallas Cowboys and a professional press stand at the stadium. My dad and his buddies still know players names and track their stats and my brother and I graduated 10+ years ago. It's a way of life to some. So glad I escaped! lol I know people from other areas of Texas though that do describe their home towns as closer to the town of Dillon.

There's 39,000+ cities in the United States, not all cities are big cities. There's some people that never left their city, not even for travel. I come from a city with 180,000 people, about an hour away is Boston and about 3 hours is NYC so life is completely different where I'm from.

Some towns are small and does not have much to offer and high school sports is huge for them. Basically it brings their little town together unlike bigger cities with massive amount of things to do.

State champ in martial arts, trained with firearms, I eFF'n dare you!

One of my friends in the army was from a small town just like this in West Texas, and he said that yeah...that's pretty much how it was. Small town, mostly rural community, and football was the one thing that brought everyone together. Oh, they didn't do weird districting tricks with mailboxes, and they were state champs, but the town was CRAZY for their high school football.

Whores will have their trinkets.

There are really towns like this. I mean, this is based on a real place: Odessa, TX.

I lived in a small town in the South. It wasn't quite to this level but the people still LOVED high school football and there were towns around like this.

I'm from Iowa. Were not as football obsessed as Texans but yeah, this is how things really are in small towns. I lived it thru high school.

It's edited because I can't spell.

I finished high school in a small town in west Texas. I was out of district eligibility to start the season. The coach literally went to the school board to explain that I was living with him inside town. In reality, I was living out at the lake out of the school district.
