AVPR theme by Brian Tyler - sounds incredibly familiar...

It sounds like trailer music, or something. When I very first watched, I felt like I immediately recognized it. Although, there's nothing on Google that implies that Brian Tyler 'borrowed' another piece of music, or something. I also heard the exact same music in 'Godzilla: Final War', which was released in 2004... Discuss.

It heavily utilizes parts from both the predator and aliens themes. Fantastic score though.

No, I'm talking about the main theme. Brian Tyler's theme for AVPR - not the riffs borrowed from the previous films - but the actual theme itself, was heard IN ANOTHER MOVIE.

"You killed my husband, Sam. Be kind to me."

The theme is essentially riffs from the other films. It probably sounds similar as many films have mimicked both the aliens and predator score.

Gothic Power by X-Ray Dog is the name of the music that Tyler's main theme sounds like. It was used in the Lord of the Rings trailers. I think the biggest achievement of the score to AVP-R is that fact that Tyler was able to mimic the musical styles of previous Alien films and still let his composing style shine through. Now that deserves recognition at least.

I can certainly here similarities. Nothing that I would say is anything more then a coincidence.

Thank you! I've always wondered who composed that particular piece of music heard in some of the Lord of the Rings trailers!
