shareYeah. The last twenty years haven't been great for Carpenter, but this was him in top form.
share'Cigarette Burns' identifies a note of dread that speaks loudly to true film buffs/nerds. The first two thirds at least are super-unnerving especially if you're in that demographic. The final act, when the core esoteric knowledge is revealed, didn't work as well for me, however, and maybe any mystery solution would have had a hard time living up to the dread and ominousness that had been developed.
