The opening scene

WHAT was the point in making the opening scene in the hospital just a dream sequence? He gets killed for real about two minutes later anyway. From a narrative point of view, what did the second sequence accomplish (beheaded in the kitchen) that was lacking from the first (stabbed in the hospital bed)? I found it very annoying, and it's only the start of the movie. It's stuff like this that makes me feel that Roth is a really terrible screenwriter.

Anyone else bugged by the pointless 'all the dream' opening?

Rock n' roll, pumpkin...

I suppose they were trying to show the reason why he didn't tell the police was because he was worried they were all involved in the Elite Hunting..
