How do you think he would've tried to have helped Beth if he had the chance?

It's not like he could tell her there's a plan to capture, torture and murder you and your friends, cause obviously she would've thought he was crazy....

Maybe he would've showed her the sights of the city, dinner, anything to keep her away.
