I think, knowing what we know about these people, I'm gonna go with either...
1. David's cheated before or possibly multiple times or..
2. Shannon started out as a mistress with David and therefore shouldn't have been surprised. This would also explain why his family never liked her.

These are my best guesses. It can't be anything huge and she never said it would destroy her family just that it would hurt and I think at this point anything more to change this happy ending narrative of David's affair would drive Shannon nutty.

Any other guesses?

I think you are on to something with #2. It would explain why the family still hangs with his ex.

They arent hanging with his ex, I thought it was his mistress that has been to their house for dinner and stuff

I read somewhere that Shannon and David weren't allowed to film in the house they just sold, but Shannon keeps telling people they're "down sizing". There's a lie. If that's the big "lie" Vicki has on Shannon. I have to roll my eyes and say, yeah, that's umm, juicy. 

David was charged with 2 counts of assault and battery against cohabitant. He pled guilty. Has he gotten physical with Shannon since then and they're trying to keep it quiet? Could that be the secret?

Wow, I didn't know that about David. Whatever secret Vicki thinks she knows, if I were Shannon, I would tell Vicki to let it out. Don't threaten me with exposing something because I will call your bluff. Ugh, that pisses me off when someone does that to someone else.

Yes. It happened in February 2003 and he was released on a $10K bond, had to complete a batterer's treatment program and serve out 3 years of unsupervised probation. He went off on Vicki at the 70's party...he can get foul with his words (even/especially if provoked). I think Vicki has it out for him. Especially using the word pig. Remember it was the use of that (calling her Miss Piggy due to her nose) that gave her the impetus to get rhinoplasty. He probably hit a sore spot. Shannon might just be the easier target or confided in Vicki about a later battering and now Shannon is making nice to protect him and their daughters from more family dirty laundry being hung out for the world to see.

Oh right...I forgot about the abuse charges. I think you're right about this because Vicki was really trying to provoke him a the 70s party and afterwards Shannon said "he didn't touch her." I thought that was an odd thing to say -- I mean I wouldn't think that my husband would lay hands on one of my friends (or former friends) regardless of what they said.

Ugh. David is a mess.

Yeah, I officially lost all respect for him and his self-righteous "you need to own up to lying about cancer" BS.

Jeez that marriage is a hot mess. I came here to ask why the help is Shannon trying so hard to keep David. Now I really wonder. I don't get why she wants to be with him so bad
