OT, Fall Weather

I for one, am very happy it is getting cooler in my neck of the woods, which is Los Angeles. After the BAKING heat we had this summer, waking up a little cool in the mornings and wearing something long sleeved on my walk to work, (I have a car but parking is expensive and it's only 10 minuet walk from home to work) or having to chose between paying to run my air conditioning or be super hot when home, and not having to touch up my makeup multiple times a from sweat messing it up whenever outside is heaven. It actually even rained one day last week in the morning, and I wasn't even bothered that I had to take an Uber to work because I was so happy it meant we had a cool day! I am looking forward to sweaters, hot coffee instead of iced, and not feeling like I'm stepping into a freaking sauna every time I step outside.

Whats the weather like where you live? Are you happy or bummed it's getting cooler?

I'm in Australia and it's meant to be spring but it's still raining incessantly most days and there was a state wide 12 hour blackout last week in the worst storm since 1955. It's nice today but raining again tomorrow. FFS I just want some colour on my white legs.

Yes I'm from the same part of the world and I feel ya.

I live on the east coast and spent yesterday sunning on the beach with my friend. We packed a picnic lunch, sat by the waves and marveled at how cute the little kids reactions to the waves coming to wash over their toes were. It's a tad unseasonably warm but we're trying to get the last tanning in of the season (and jump our serotonin levels before winter). P.S. We used sunscreen! Happy for you that summer is on it's way. May the rain bring lots of blooms to your spring.

I live on Lake Erie in Ohio and we have been trying to squeeze the last little bit of warm weather out of the season- however today is rainy, gray, and 50 degrees.... ughhhh. Anyway, GO Tribe!! ( Cleveland Indians Baseball) πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ‘βšΎοΈπŸ†

I live in the DC area and it was chilly earlier this month. Cold enough to put the heat on at night which I refuse to do in October so I was just dealt with the cold. Then this week it turned warm again and has been in the 80s during the day. I like all types of weather but prefer weather to be seasonally appropriate. I do not enjoy 80s in mid- to late-October.

reply

I love the DC area! Fell in love with it a few years back.

Why do we do that? Refuse to turn the heat on in the house until we absolutely can't stand it anymore. Will freeze our ass off until the calendar flips to November. Even though we may have already hit the 30's in October.

Heat on in the car though...no problem.

reply

Here's why I refuse to turn the heat on until the cold gets so bad that I can see my breath in the morning...it's to get a break from the darn electric bill. I need heat in the winter not because it's unreasonably cold, but I live on the water and there that damp chill you get that hurts your bones as you get older. In the summer you can't live where I do without air conditioning so bills are high then. Especially with a hot humid summer like we had this year. If I can suffer (mildly) until the end of the year without heat I can save about $400 which translates to Christmas for my grandchildren. Priorities. That's what they make down comforters and sweaters for!! (Tee hee and I wear socks to bed!!)

reply

@mindthinkr...I hate being cold! HATE IT!!!

You are not alone with the socks in bed. If my hands and feet are cold, then I'm cold.

Here's the thing for me though. I can't stand dressing in layers when I'm in my home. T-shirt and shorts or a comfortable one-piece cotton pullover. That translates to...crank up the heat once I finally break down and turn it on.

Thankfully my husband doesn't mind it.

But I get the grandkids thing. So do what you gotta do. Enjoy!

reply

I won't turn on the furnace until November either!! If it gets below 60 degrees in the house ( which it does), I turn on the fireplace!! We also have a temperpedic mattress which is so bloody hot I can barely stand it.

I live in Maryland, between Baltimore and DC and have to say I can't complain about this Indian summer. Temps are supposed to drop this weekend though.

I am NOT a fan of winter, though it's at least it's much milder here than Chicago or Boston, two of the cities where I used to live.

reply

I'm in New York and it was in the eighties yesterday, so definitely not Fall weather. I think it's going to change today and I hope so because the Fall is my favorite time of the year.

reply

I'm in the Midwest and we have had temps all over the place. Was 90 degrees on Monday and 43 today. Supposed to be mid 70s this weekend.

reply

I live in the Midwest and this is not fall weather. 

reply

Not at all, kikyo! So weird!

reply

I've lived in Southern California my whole life, so I've never been through a brutal winter. I have been to the Midwest at Christmas time, and I must admit, a really hot summer can't possibly be more miserable than a really cold winter. I don't blame all of you in colder climates for dreading what is coming. I should count my blessings.

A really hot summer is MUCH more miserable than a cold winter.

In winter, you can always bundle up and get cozy with blankets and extra clothes. But you cannot stay cool in the summer unless you are in the water. In Missouri we get the worst of both summer and winter. I prefer winter over humid, hot, sticky weather any day. The electric bill is so much cheaper to heat the house than it is to cool it as well.

Wow. This thread has made me want to never bitch about any weather in LA EVER again. Yeah, it gets uncomfortably hot for a few months, but thankfully it rarely gets above 95 degrees and we never have a really cold winter, not to mention we never have to deal with snow.

You are lucky! I hate snow. So many accidents on the road and my husband has a long drive most days for work.

And when we have a really bad snowstorm, there have been times when the county hasn't even gotten to our street because we're near the cul de sac at the end of the development.

I would take hot summers over miserable winters anyday.

East coast Boston here. We're experiencing our Indian Summer. We can go from fall to summer and back to fall again within a 48hr period.

I love the fall season. The colors that nature gives us and the clothing fashion.

I'm from the Caribbean, but raised here. So, I'm a city girl at heart until I go home to Jamaica for holiday.

Thanks for the post. You got a lot of fun feedback.

Minnesota here, and it's been just gorgeous! Cooler today than it's been. Personally, I like it to stay as warm as it can until the inevitable freezer of winter. Not a fan. Fall is awesome, though. I actually don't mind winter for awhile, but it lasts a long time up here in the north country.

I was in Los Angeles this August for a vacation, and it was pretty nice. It was warm some days, but it cooled down nicely in the evening. That doesn't happen here. When it's hot....it can stay pretty humid and steamy in the evening, too.

Fall is my favorite season, though. The colors are just beautiful this year, and I love everything about it....pumpkins, hay rides, fire pits, Halloween. That doesn't mean, though, that I couldn't be perfectly content living in a warm climate. Trade in the snow boots for flip flops.

Happy Fall to everyone!!!!
