Why did the show have to turn molestation into love? SPOILER?

I mean, it wasn't really funny, in fact it was stolen from 'That's My Boy' that came out the same year (and seriously, stealing comedy from ADAM SANDLER is like stealing spoof humor from Seltzer & Friedberg) and it was even kinda offensive.

GLEE handled molestation better, which is just sad, especially since Tina Fey claims to be a huge feminist and thus should be enlightened...

Highly doubt she copied a terrible movie when she mentioned the real life scenario several seasons prior. Fualaau.

I always saw Susan Sarandon's character as commentary/inspired by Mary Kay Laterno(sp?) and how she has been married to the middle school aged boy she molested now that she is out of prison and both are adults. Tina Fey seems to do this fairly regularly. Base characters off of big news media stories. You also see it with the "Mole Women" in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as just one other example. They are clearly inspired by those women who were held captive for years in Ohio I believe it was. I look at it as more of a social commentary on real life events than condoning or making light of the real life events.

I actually think they did something subtle with that storyline. The interesting thing is is that Frank was genuinely screwed up because of his molestation. He says it himself. "What could have happened to me when I was thirteen that would make me want to stay that age forever?!" Frank is a stunted man directly because of trauma he received as a child. The show states it explicitly. He not only was molested he felt long-term effects from that molestation.

And Liz is unequvically against that relationship until she tastes Frank's tears.

But Mary Kay Letourneau did get back together with the boy she molested. And they did get married. And once they are legal then it is none of our business.

I think Tina Fey and the writers did something unexpectedly interesting there. Frank was molested by his teacher. It is horrible and it stunted him as a man. But we are in no position to judge or mandate how adults should live their lives.

I don't want to profile but most ghosts are white.
