Help...I hate this show :(

Let me start out by saying that I don't want to start any type of drama with this post. The thing is I really want to like this show, and I'm trying so hard. But I can't get into it. Im on season episode 12. Im here to see if there is anyone who didn't like it off the bat but learned to like it later. Do I just need to power through the first season or something?

To be blunt, a lot of the humor in 30 Rock is quite subtle, and average viewers were baffled by it when it was first aired. If you've made it to the twelfth episode and you're still not laughing, it's probably over your head.

I won't say it's "over your head" like the previous poster. However it may not be the type of humor for you. By episode 12 you should be enjoying it.

I always advise people to start watching 30 Rock with Season 2. The first half of Season 1, the show was still figuring out what it wanted to be. Once Liz hooks up with Floyd around Valentine's Day in the last half of season 1, it finds its rhythm.

reply

Stop watching then, and go find something you enjoy.

It's like me and football. I don't get football. It's boring

The poster who said start at SE2EP01 was almost right...I'd recommend starting at SE1EP16 The Source Awards. And if u still can't get into it...skip to SE2EP01 and give it one more chance.

Even when I go back and watch the series in chronological order, I honestly can't get into those early episodes. However, I'm sure you know this already, but most sitcoms struggle early on in its voice, look and tone.

I'm so glad they got Liz out of that crappy apartment and replaced Jenna with Jack as Liz's best bud.

Anyway...my 2 cents!

Historically, S01E12 was the watershed episode, because that was the one the writers wrote on the assumption 30 Rock was being cancelled, so the went bug nuts with the script. "Black Tie" is indeed one of the funniest shows of the season, and I think it shows how much potential the show had for writing of landmark quality. I still say that if the fourth or fifth episode doesn't grab you, the show is probably over your head, but if you don't laugh at "Black Tie" then you're completely hopeless.

Never watched it. Can't stand Tina Fey, and don't like the idea of the way SNL is treated like some social political commentary on the way things are in America, especially by the NBC morning news programs, so the LAST thing I was going to ever do was further add to that glut and watch a sitcom about the process.

Whether this is what it was about or not, I couldn't care less. Same thing currently going on with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight show.

They might as well put SNL people regularly on The Today show.

But it was obviously Hollywood propped up, same way Murphy Brown was thirty years ago and I hated that show as well.

What next? A dramedy about the making of a half-hour tv show based on a late night political comedy program? I would guess it is in the works.

So..............why are you on the message boards for the show then? Weird.

Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean it is empirically not good.-Tina Fey

I actually can't stand SNL but I love 30 Rock. Everyone has different taste. I can relate to Liz Lemon and the characters are all loveable. The humor is great too. I mean, c'mon, in episode 1 when Jenna first meets Jack and she's flirting with him, but then Kenneth comes up and says "here's the hemorrhoid cream you asked for." I was rolling.
