Oh No!!! this is gonna be a comedy?????

There ya go, another great series that's about to get tarnished. Warner Bros. is missing out on a chance to start a new franchise of films by tarnishing it as a comedy spoof. Hell, why not just recast the roles with Ben Stiller (Ponch) and Owen Wilson (Baker), they're the best for comedy spoofs. I expected Wilmer Valderrama to shine as a fine Ponch but it's gonna be a comedy, oh well.

Hollywood has hit a new low.Fez from that 70's show as estrada gimme a break.Shoot who ever goes to watch this peacie of crap.

reply

Gee, the original was such as serious show. Heck, if you were over 10yrs old and enjoyed Chips without laughing, somethings probably wrong with you.

reply

yeah, i don't ever remember chips being a serious cop show, hey, lets catch a bad guy then pull over some hot chics and take them back to our 70's bachelor pads and get them drunk!!!

that's how most episodes i remember seeing went. fez will do good as the ponch, jon well, not sure on that one.

And don't forget those ever-exploding cars on the L.A. Freeways! Was it like every 15th car on the show exploded?

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

The CHiPs rule was that any car that hit another car would fly up up in the air, as if car trunks were shaped like ramps or something, roll over, and inevitably explode. This is in contrast to the Dukes of Hazzard rule where no matter how many times a car flipped over, or how far down a cliff it crashed, the occupants would always get out completely unharmed, and thanks to Cooter, would have the car back on the road the following day.

I know you didn't just call "chips" a great series?!? This isn't like a Miami Vice that had the possibility of being a great re-make (which it was). That could be the best thing for the re-vitalization of that series, which was as campy as Ponch and Jon's haircuts. I just hope that later in life that Wilmer won't have to resort to selling property in desolate areas of the US like Eric Estrada does now !

reply

Well the thing is Chips was a cool tv show. If it weren't they wouldn't be trying to do a movie of it don't you think?

Plus, use your brain a bit. The series was on in the late 70's, you really couldn't have a series that was dark, moody and bloody much like the series of today. All you see is good guys sleeping with the bad guys.....and beheading and lots of blood and gore

reply

I don't know about you, but if the movie doesn't have at least one ridiculously drawn out multi car pileup scene and cameos from at least two famous-for-being famous tabloid washups I'm going to feel ripped off.

CHiPs was a great series. It had comedy, drama & action.

Straight men loved:-
1) the action 2) the women 3) the motor bikes/cars

Women loved:-
1) Erik Estrada &/or Larry Wilcox 2) The Uniforms

Gay Men loved:-
1) Erik Estrada &/or Larry Wilcox 2) The Uniforms

Gay women loved:-
1) the women 2) the action

Kids loved:-
1) the action 2) the bikes 3) looking up to Ponch & Jon as heroes

..... OK maybe a bit of generlisation here, but it shows that CHiPs had something for everyone. It was a great family show. Cheesy? Hell yes... but in a good way!

Attn All Units!

It would be sad if the just spoof "CHiPs". The Dukes of Hazard is a prime example of what happens when you do that, complete crap. This has the potential to be something good, I hope they take it seriously. However I will say there has to be a bit of cheese otherwise it wouldn't be "CHiPs"!
