From what I've read so far, I agree with the OP. If true, this one deserves to fail.

I'm not a fan of remakes to start. But if they insist on doing so, at least make the reboot similar to the content that made it popular the first time around. If they are unable to freshen up a show / movie without completely changing its appeal, don't do it.
