'Dukes of Hazzard' treatment

This new version will be written poorly, sexed up and filled with the usual commercial comedy & action scenes. expect rampant product placement.

Though it will become yet another dorm room DVD on the shelf next to the bong.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of.I've already boycotted the Dukes movie.I'm afraid I'll end up doing the same with this one.Which is sad, because both of these shows were my favorite shows as a kid.Now they are being destroyed on the big screen.

Forgive your enemies. It messes with their heads.

Valderrama on the CHiPs Adaptation
Source: LA Daily News April 14, 2006

The LA Daily News caught up with That '70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama and asked him about Warner Bros. Pictures' upcoming adaptation of the TV series CHiPs. Valderrama will play Ponch, the character played by Erik Estrada in the series, and says the movie won't make fun of the show.

"What we're doing is, we're having fun with it, but we're not making fun of 'CHiPs.' A lot of the remakes that have happened in the last couple of years have failed because they make fun of their franchise. You can't be making fun of something that at some point people cared so much about," he points out. "For the world, 'CHiPs' is a very serious drama. You can't disrespect that. What we want is for the comedy to be very organic and just be character driven -- not to have funny costumes or funny gags."

It's now almost 11 years after you posted this comment and we now have the first trailer. It looks like they lied. They have shown disrespect for the original cast and the original story. Based on the trailer, the two main characters are buffoons and they are going to portray the CHPs in general as corrupt. The prediction of the original poster seems to be correct. They are doing to CHiPs what they did to Dukes of Hazard. Based on the reviews of that movie I have refused to watch it and based on the trailer for this I will not watch it either.

Oh come on. You act like the the original TV versions of these shows were great works of art. Get real.

reply

the point isnt about the type of show it used to be. the point is how Hollywood ruins things.

reply

You, and the writers of this movie, act like the it was a slapstick comedy. It was not a great work of art but it was not a comedy either.

I just hope this is not another "Dallas" What I mean is we all have heard that they are doing a big screne version of the tv show Dallas. We have been hearing this for something like ten years and still no results. I hope we don't have to wait ten years for CHiPs to make it to the big screen.

reply

Or Starsky & Hutch. That was a huge insult to the original series.

Oh man, bad news...

i hope that his idea of having fun with the movie isnt the same as his idea of having fun by hosting and producing the tv show Yo Mama, or else we're in for a pretty crappy movie.

reply

I think Wilmer is a perfect choice for Ponch. With all the choices for any of the characters in this film, he's the one actor where people will always say, "Yep, He's the guy." I'm reminded of when Peirce Brosnan stepped into the role of James Bond. Few questioned the producer's choice. As for the film, I can see it now....They will up the sex appeal, wize-cracks, and fail in every way of staying true to the original show. Oh, and don't forget the tolken cameo appearances by some of the original cast members! After this, Knight Rider is not far off!

reply

I hope so

reply

I have feeling this is going to go the same route as the two Dukes of Hazzard movies and Starsky & Hutch. The complete opposite of what the TV series were. An insult.

Let's not forget The Avengers, Bewitched, Charlie's Angels, Flintstones, Lost in Space, The Saint, Miami Vice, the A-Team, Wild Wild West, Scooby Doo, Land of the Lost, the Mod Squad, Get Smart, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Beverly Hillbillies, George of the Jungle and the recent Man from UNCLE. God only knows how many others. The list of failed remakes seems almost endless.

Huge CHiPs fan, used to leave my friends and playing outside to watch the show during its hay day. This movie will just end up being another farse like 21 Jump Street, Starsky & Hutch and Dukes of Hazzard.

reply

hope its gets a SWAT treatment that was a good movie. I hope it doesnt get a parody remake like dukes though even dukes of hazerd back in the day was sexualized for its time big time where the hell ya think the daisy duke fad came from and cut off shorts. Old dukes was a comdedy not a police drama like chips.
