"CHiPs" not "CHIPS"

The original title, with the lower case "i" and s" made it at least a little more obvious, after watching maybe ONE episode, that the upper case letters stood for California Highway Patrol. Now, the title VISUALLY makes no sense. You either think ALL the letters stand for something, which they don't, or that "CHIPS" references something other than the CHP. Poker Chips, because they indulge in such risky, stupid behaviour? Potato chips, because they're thinly-made, superficial with no nutritional value? I suppose fans of the original show will "get" the meaning regardless, but since they'll now be avoiding this show en masse, it seems obvious the marketing tools simply capitalized the whole title because, hey, "it doesn't really matter, amiright?"

Sigh.

It's like when they brought back "Point Break" and kept the title of the movie despite the fact that the focus on surfing was dropped, thus the title meant nothing to the movie (except to get people to see it). So to justify the title, the tagline of the movie became "Find your breaking point". They probably spent a good 5 seconds coming up with that one.

Seems like remakes can't even avoid crapping on the title of the material they're remaking.

"Osbourne Cox? I thought you might be worried...about the security...of your sh*t."

They probably haven't even watched the TV show. They didn't get the name right, they didn't get the genre right (the original was not a comedy and even the comedic moments were nothing like this). Seems they decided to remake a TV show despite knowing nothing about it and were too lazy to even check it out. Either that, or they're just idiots.

I just now noticed that the title is incorrect.

Sadly, this film already looks as though it'll be poorly received. If it's anything like 21 Jump Street (2012) and its sequel, then I'm expecting one dick joke after another.

I guess that is what passes for humor nowadays.
