I wonder if anyone besides myself had trouble hearing the dialog in the last scene? And yes, I had the sound turned up and my hearing is good. So, I never understood what exactly was said. Does anyone know why they changed the name from "Butterfly on a Wheel" to "Shattered?"

After watching the movie three times I think I caught most of it. She pretty much tells Neils that he still got everything, his career, his money, his daughter, everything except for one thing... her. She doesn't want him anymore. She's the one who broke the butterfly on a wheel.

I think she kissed him, as the last final blow (after confessing to him, her actions that evening w/Pierce Brosnan) .....probably to show him what he has lost, by his final lie....along with his history of repeated affairs, etc.
Guess it would make him think about what he lost. His happy home, idillic life, beautiful wife & daughter....what every man would envy. He pissed it all away by being an egotistical greedy arse.
we never actually see her kiss him. she was teasing him; her whole plan was to make him feel like she's felt all along while he betrayed her. and in the end she seductively said goodbye.
if i was her though, i would keep the nice house and the child.

It was just shown today at the Vancouver Film Festival....The writer and director said the distributors changed the title for the american market. Other titles considered were 'Deadly Vengeance" or "Deadly Affair"
YUCK! As mediocre as Shattered is it's at least better than those two. More proof of Lionsgate's marketing idiocy.

I really hate it when they change the title for the American market, like we're all a bunch of idiots with no imagination. The original title is far more intriguing than the new one. It's like changing "Treed Murray" to "Get Down". I may not know what the title means, but at least I might pick it up and look at it to find out. If this movie hadn't had Pierce Brosnan on the cover, I wouldn't have even picked it up. The title sounds like some bad B-movie that doesn't even have the imagination to come up with an interesting title and just picks one from a list of 101 Generic Thriller Titles.

This line actually comes from a writing by Alexander Pope. It's called "Epistle to Dr. Arbuthnot." I've never read it, but I know that this is where it comes from. I guess Pope saw a lot of tortures of criminals and such and one of the ways that they were tortured was to break their bones on a wheel with an iron bar.
To break a delicate creature like a butterfly in such a brutal way as on a wheel has sort of come to mean applying superabundant effort in the accomplishment of a small matter.
Those other two titles make the twist completely obvious.....
