Brosnan's wife is just as responsible for the affair but she doesn't have to run through the whole song and dance routine. Bello is also crazy and selfish. She doesn't even check on her daughter when they return. Bello only cares about herself and that is the main reason why her husband had the affair. Typical movie where only one side is shown.

Well Brosnan's wife does get her crappy lover shoving a gun in her face and pulling the trigger as her husband urges him on -- which might have been a tad traumatic. I'd have liked to see more of Tom and his wife though after the big reveal because I found Tom far more interesting than whining Neil and there wasn't enough shown of his backstory.
Abby didn't need to check on her daughter right away, she knew she was with a capable babysitter and not a kidnapper and she was seeing the babysitter off.
Neil cheated because he was a weasel and only cared about himself. Even with his daughter's life on the line he was willing to lie about how much money he had in the bank. Mid kidnapping he was willing to rough up his wife when he thought his career was threatened. When it was all over he was STILL lying to Abby about why they'd been put through hell because he thought he could get away with it - and all for an affair he told Tom "meant nothing".
Any man that tells his wife to be sure to pick up his dry cleaning , mid fooling around with her when he'll be off having an affair (instead of staying with her for the weekend after her birthday) is a dirt bag and the epitome of selfish. He wants his wife, his mistress and his Prada suit dry cleaned and that's all he cares about. That his wife has already forgiven him for a previous affair so damaging that it caused the entire family to uproot and leave Denver means nothing to him.
Did Tom and Abby go over the top -- yes. Hence the title of the film. But then Neil isn't some innocent butterfly.

Sure he'd kill for his daughter but he tried to lie about how much money he had when his daughters life was at stake. As for the willingness to murder another person if he'd offered to blow his own head off instead I'd have had a modicum of respect for him.
The affair was over because he got caught and tried to blow his lover's head off. What a guy. He lied to save his own ass and because he thought he could get away with it. It also showed he didn't learn a damn thing about all that just happened to him. He thought he could just go on fooling his wife and have life the way he wanted to without owning up to the lying weasel he'd been and sadly continued to be.
No one is foolish enough to divulge all his assets to a sociopath. Most people have many bank accounts and holdings in different institutions. The only reason he knew is because of Bello's complicity.
He tried to commit murder under duress. It is not because he is a murderer by nature. No one should be put into such a situation. Couples have affairs all the time, but such cruelty is not justified. Divorce is there for a reason.
You are angry because he did not break down and suffer as much as they had planned and was able to recover from such devastating trauma and move on. No one is foolish enough to throw everything away because he spent a day with a sociopath and survived. He just went through an ordeal to save his daughter and his intentions are to salvage the family unit by keeping the marriage.
The fact remains the punishment is one-sided. You are complaining he didn't suffer enough, but that only shows how little Brosnan's wife suffered by comparison.
