'Neil! His phone...' ? (spoilers)

In the scene when Tom leaves to go get the package, why did Abby point out that Tom had left his phone in the car? Why risk Neil calling that number?

(Sorry if it was made obvious in the next few minutes. I know Tom gives them an assignment with the package right after that, but my rented DVD had a big scratch on it and I had to skip ahead to where they enter the hotel room. So, I couldn't tell if that was a motivational plot hole or some useful story device that I missed.)

Good intentions alone aren't worth the paper you meant to write them on.

Because Abby knowed that Tom phoned before to a hotel.
So she knows that Neil was going to see the last dialed number.

He was pretending to phone the place where the girl was being held but it was in fact a plot to get him to the hotel.

And again this plot could work only if Neil went to that hotel. If he decided, for instance, to go home and check on his daughter, Tom and Abby's plan would fail apart.
