JUST ONE TWIST TOO MANY IS TOO MUCH!!!

Tom Grey getting even or having morally defeated Neil was exactly right, clever and neatly plotted and would have been more than enough to get the point. The idea of Neils's wife being in the loop was totally gratuitious and took away a lot of credibility of the whole movie. It just needed too much coordination, logistic and rehearsal and there was none of the necessary room to make it plausible.
Simply put: the writer gor carried away. Just a Shame.

If pigs had wings the sh*t of this world would be perfectly shared

I couldnt agree more with you. I loved the whole Tom twist, and then before you can even digest that they throw another twist that was completely unnecessary. Big mistake, almost ruined the whole movie for me.

you are wrong my friend. i thought it would have just another movie that i have seen of that nature. however i have never seen a movie where the wife is in on the whole scheme. ive seen movies before that involve blackmail on his life alla phone booth however this is far from it. the fact the wife is the one who, at least the audience presumes, contacted peirce brosnans character make it different from those movies. a great twist. its not two different twists either, its just two people in on the same twist making it more complex, unique, and brilliant. its one big great twist, to simply put it.

You're wrong. Tom wouldn't have been able to do what he did without Abby's help. He wouldn't have known how much money Neil had in the bank. He wouldn't have known how Neil "bought his way into that account." He wouldn't even have been able to convince Neil that his daughter had actually been kidnapped. The final twist was a fine twist, because it answered the "how the hell did he do that?" questions. It made the whole scheme more believable -- not only was Tom manipulating Neil, but Abby was shepherding his actions too. Maybe Neil wouldn't have thought to sneak a peek at the phone number on his own, but when Abby suggests it, they're off to the hotel during their hour of unsupervised time.

Believe me, if she hadn't been in on it, the number of people here complaining about specious plot holes would be a lot higher than it is.

Spamsicle,

I first thought Abby was in on it when Neil went to the police station, but then when he saw her afterwards and she said she had to tell the police about the so called divorce, at first I thought well this is more of the same bs why Neil can't seem to take any action to shortcircuit the whole thing.

But then I thought, well there is something about Abby's answer that is just too pat, and from then on til it was revealed at the end I was expecting her to reveal she was involved.

The other thing is, if it was purely a revenge thing, as opposed to a typical kidnapping for money, then Tom would have been unable as a practical matter to get someone into it, meaning hte baby sitter, since in a kidnapping the object would have been to get money, the proceeds of which would be shared with all those in on the crime. Abby was the only person who had a personal motive to go along with what Tom was doing. In that sense it was perfect that she knew - her actions helping Tom made it unnecessary for anyone else to be a party to the fake kidnapping.
