how do movies like this get made?

can someone with some insider knowledge help me out here? how did this movie get made? someone had to write it, someone had to buy the script, someone had to pay the production costs, someone had to convince the actors to do it, etc.

this movie was terrible. all the pieces seemed to be there to accomplish a decent thriller: somewhat original story, famous people who can act, cameras, money, etc. i mean, the script was seriously lacking, but it could have been improved without much ado.

everything was poorly executed. the proven actors sucked at acting, not helping the poor script out at all. it didn't "look" cool, either.

how did they get butler, brosnan and bello to do this movie? is it their agents' faults? or did the actors knowingly sign up for a crappy movie, knowing it would go straight to dvd, simply to get a paycheck. i would hope doing a movie like this would hurt their careers, so that leads me to believe they didn't know it would suck.

can someone explain?

I know what you mean. My observation is that sometimes, there is a disconnect when making the film. The actors are just being paid to act, the director just directs, the writer just writes but the producer(s) is/are the main "creator" that can start out with a bad idea. Then if everyone is not on the same page then the movie can be bad. I think actors and directors try to avoid this but it happens even to the best of them, especially when they are just getting paid. This reminds me of Bruce Willis in the Whole Ten Yards. Horrible movie but you had good actors, they had money, etc...

I didn't mind this flick, however as with every business there is a need to outlay a lost of cost for tax and budgetary reasons so often a lot of superfluous stuff ends up getting produced to minimize tax payments.
