...(ICON, as you know, is Mel Gibson's production company), I knew there would be some kind of conservative message in the movie.

What did this Neil guy do to deserve such a terrible punishment?

He had sex out of the sacred vow of marriage.

Well, it could be argued that we as a society have become far to leint and condonding of adultery and that too many people vioate their partner's trust by cheating on them. I think you have to know what's it like to be cheated on to understand the rage and emotion involved.

Exactly.

It's not really WHAT he did but that he did it to the wrong people. If you screw over someone long enough, eventually you're going to get screwed yourself.
