So Obvious...and bad

This is one really horrible movie. I don't know how anyone would have been surprised by the twist -- it was pretty obvious early on. What a fraud. No wonder it went straight to DVD.

This was an exciting film and it proves what a diverse actor both Gerard and Pierce are. I doubt you guessed the twist of the ending. Once you have seen the movie you could say that in hindsight. It was tense, and well directed and I was totally blown away by the story and the exciting moments. Why it went straight to video is beyond me....3 top stars alone should make you release it...it is so much better than 90% of the crap that people pay to see today.

Sorry, i had to agree with the first poster.
Perhaps not an awful movie, but not that good either.
Close to minute 38 (when she delivers the package in the building) i figured out the plot. Pierce acting was bad. The accent was tedious and at times it is just annoying.

The movie isnt that bad, but i wouldnt give it more than 5,6 stars.

Duke, I guessed the ending in the first 20 minutes of the film, and I knew NOTHING about the movie, and I never guess the endings to films.

I don't know how many men there are in America who talk with a Northern Irish accent, but all Neil Randall would have had to have done to twig what was going on would have been to take the time to ask his lover a couple of questions about her husband....doh.

I agree that it was both obvious and bad.

What a bummer, too - because the preview was great! I saw the preview while watching another DVD a couple weeks ago and went whoa, why haven't I heard of this movie before? I Netflixed it right away, and I'm disappointed with how predictable, hollow and poorly acted it was (Maria Bello is usually way better).

As soon as Abby was on the phone with her hubby's secretary and was talking super sweetly to her, saying she "had some big plans for him," I knew it was Abby's plan all along.

I wouldn't say it was a horrible movie, but various plot points I had figured out really early on.

1) that he was having an affair with the secretary
2) that the kid never left home. I think I was convinced of this when they found his cellphone and got the number to the hotel. It was completely obvious that it was a setup.
3) that his wife was in on it. I figured this for certain in the hotel room when he was making her strip because we already knew Brosnon's character wasnt an evil person and only acting because of how cool he was with his kid. But my very first suspicion came when they both went into the bank and she asked "Is that all of it?"

The only thing I didn't figure out was that Brosnon's character was the husband of the secretary and that's because he seemed too much like a pro. This could have been a better movie had they made him seem slightly more amateurish. As it is, it seemed like she had just hired him rather than this being a dual powered revenge flick. Actually, this could have been a better movie with lesser known actors in the 3 major roles.

But beyond this, this movie seemed like it was designed to be a vehicle for Butler to act a wide range of emotions to counter balance his role in 300. This is one of my big beefs with Hollywood. Too often they just want to make manufacture big stars rather than great movies.

You fellas are genious to decipher twists because , honestly , I didn't saw the final twist coming.

reply

I sort of saw it coming throughout the film, but I didn't expect the main 'bad guy' to be the husband of the girl he was cheating on and i didn't expect the wife to know after i found out it had to do with the cheating. Call me dumb or blind, but thts the truth from me.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. I watched in on "On Demand" one night when I couldn't sleep and it was not bad. I figured out in the first scene with the secretary that Gerard Butler was having an affair with her or they were at least going through the effort to make you think he was having an affair with her. About halfway through the movie, I kind of had a feeling that it wasn't your typical kidnapping. Pierce Brosnan was directing his anger more towards Gerard Butler than Maria Bello and what idiot would set over $100K on fire anyway?!? I knew the babysitter wasn't in on it, but Pierce Brosnan was making it seem that way. I really did like the ending, though. She wanted to make absolutely sure he knew that she knew and she wasn't going to take it anymore. At the end, he knew he was at her mercy.

Hey tejanita thanks for spoiling the film for all the people reading this thread deciding whether it is worth watching. I saw it and thought it was engrossing and good. My wife saw the twist sort of early. I missed it. She said that is because women are more devious than men. For the earlier poster that thinks this was better than Gone Baby Gone and Eastern Promises, I emphatically disagree, though it was on a par or perhaps better than Death Sentence.

def better than we own the night though, i actually thought it was really good, had me on the edge of my seat and i enjoyed both butler's and brosnan's performances. i didn't see the end coming, though it was fairly obvious that they were having an affair (at the beginning, him winking at her), but all in all i would say a really great movie

This film is awful. I figured the wife was in on it about twenty minutes into the film. I didn't know exactly how it would unfold, but when they went into the bank and she wouldn't let him call the police. I knew something was up. This film was so obnoxious, it made me angry.

reply

totally agree. i saw the plot unfolding when brosnan was talkin about them doing everything he wants. the only thing i didnt know was that brosnan was the husband.

reply

Thats exactly what mad this movie good. Not EVERYBODY knew that brosnan was the husband!! I personally loved this movie.

reply

Yeah, I did figure it out a bit too early.

But I still watched it and enjoyed the whole entire movie. I was a bit gutted that I had figured it out as only as I did, but the film still engrossed me and I was hoping I would be wrong.

Overall I would give the movie a 7 which is on par with a lot of good films I have seen.

reply

I figured it out 2 minutes in. Yes, I did. I'm a real genius. Top that a$sholes!

reply

I figured it out before I even saw it - thanks to you guys.

reply

I firgured you were an idiot within 10 seconds. top that dildo breath.

but to be serious, I didn't see the twists (I admit to not being a genious). When I saw the first one, I was like, ok, big woop. and when I saw the second one, I was more like, ok this movie is getting a 4.

I see you have the machine that goes PING
