Good but what ruins it for me...

Well I shouldn't say ruined, it was still a good thriller and I was surprised that I'd never heard of it before.

When the husband & wife are at the bank, and the wife stops him from calling the police, I instantly thought "this would be dumb if she turns out to be in on it".

Of course at the end we find out she set the whole thing up: The boring suburban Chicago housewife turns out to be a criminal mastermind with acting skills good enough to keep her husband that has known her for years clueless the whole time.

Of course you could say that Brosnan's character planned it and all she had to do was act surprised along the way.

Other than this & the husband's terrible attempts at an american accent, good flick, especially liked Brosnan.

The bit of the wife going to the police station to tell them of her husband's delusions would have been a good place to diverge.

After that, Bello's character could have taken her daughter and the money and moved someplace the husband would never think to look- all the while Butler's character believing them either killed by Brosnan's or vanished unwillingly (the husband character was narcissitic enough to think his wife would never leave him).

They could include bits about wife beating or serial cheating as motivation.

That would have been a good ending.

Oh, and by the way, I knew the wife was in on it from the moment the money was supposedly burnt (she did come out of the bank alone with the briefcase). No one, not even a billionaire, burns that kind of cash.

of course his "american" accent sucked, he's from scotland, you can hear it coming out a little sometimes too...cute...

He had a heart that couldve held the empire of the world & he had to content himself with a cellar

is butler rly from scotland? u need to get ur facts right lol, hes irish, also his accent wasnt that bad in the film, better than what others would have done.

Actually rahulramanuj, you are the one who needs to get facts straight as Butler is indeed from Scotland. It is listed on his imdb page, he has mentioned it in interviews, and his accect is definately Scottish not Irish. It bothers me when people make fun of others by telling them to get their facts straight when the original poster does have their facts straight and the accusser is the one who is incorrect.

It was definitely one messed up night. Why spoil your own birthday like that? I could think of many better things to do.

As for when he pulled the trigger to Judy's head, that was intense. Then everyone knew what he was capable of and worse, he still has to go to work the next day with her.

Whatever happened to open communication between couples? And how did she stumble upon Brosnan- did he approach her with evidence of the cheating? Seems he was the only one spying.

And lastly, what happened to Judy and Brosnan, did they kiss and make up or kill each other after the couple left?

Also, did the guy/boyfriend/husband whatever live with them or was he visiting? I kept getting the impression he didn't live there. She reminded him of going back to Denver, he was fully dressed downstairs and appeared to arrive early to the house, and he mentioned Sofie as her daughter. Lastly, she also pleaded him to stay that weekend. Think this was a last chance effort for him to save himself or was everything going to play out anyways.

I want to see this movie, but i haven't been able to find it, and the synopsis is no help.
Can someone give me a brief summary?

She reminded him of going back to Denver, he was fully dressed downstairs and appeared to arrive early to the house, and he mentioned Sofie as her daughter. What are you asking here? Tom (Brosnan) was married to Judy, Neil's lover. The "cabin" Neil was going to "spend the weekend with Carl" at was Tom and judy's house. In truth, Neil was going to stay the weekend with Judy, his lover, as Tom was supposedly going out of town for a hunting trip. He got there late, due to Tom's involvement. Sophie was Neil and Abby's daughter, not Judy's. Everything was probably going to play out anyway, but I think Abby was giving Neil a chance to confess, and he blew it.

The big problem is that you could realise several times that the wife is on it. Personally, it got to me when he went to the ploice station and the wife had already been there.
Before that, Brosnan told the wife that "if wants her old life back, go out and get it" or such and then she goes and feeds the polics this without being instructed to do so by Brosnan? Seems odd. That is probably the biggest give away.

Sure, the money burning, but you cannot really be sure since you don't know the character's motivation at the beginning. The other thing that seemed really fishy is that wife was aalways the one stopping the husband from informing the cops, not the other way around, ever.

Overall, some minor plot holes, but nothing too major.

we just watched this movie last night and i loved it! and now looking back, i see all along where the wife was part of it. but it was in a weird way like the sixth sense. right there in front of your face but you just missed the clues. i I really thought it was a great twist...not sure why i never heard of this movie until we found it in netflix..

Abby tells Neil "He made me lie to the police! I'm so sorry!" So she was instructed...allegedly.

As the movie progressed, I got increasingly irritated over the incredible stupidity of the husband and wife. When she gave the booklet to the CEO or whoever he was, even though hubby was begging her not to, and even said, he told me to tell you not to do it. And she does it anyway....that took the cake - I almost shut off the CD player. Whose side are you on Lady?? Her going against those instructions should have given me a clue she was in with the kidnapper but it never entered my mind.
