Cheating is pretty minor in American, especially when you have a good job like he does, so i dont think they have the right to put them thru all this. Also, why wasnt the wife who spread her legs to Neil get punished also???
I think that having Neil shoot the gun at her head was pretty harsh punishment for her. Even though it didn't fire, it showed that she was less important to him than his own family was. Plus, now she knows that her own husband is aware of her affair and forced Neil to "shoot" her.
That's pretty good punishment as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah, she thought she was going to die and of course Neil didn't care about her as much as himself. And never mind that when Tom's wife had her "legs spread" Neil had his pants down. Why do men always have the treat the male cheater like he is some innocent victim? I mean really, is this the twilight zone?
Why does anyone have to be punished? Geez, so people get cheated on - you leave or you reconcile, whatever, but this is just so - boring! I know what you mean, the husband should be angry at his wife first, that's the way I see it as well. But nobody owns anybody else, this is not slavery, geez. Yes it hurts and disappoints etc, but this film is ridiculous! I know it's not ridiculous to all those women (yup, mainly women) who get killed by jealous partners. Those two cheated-on spouses were grade A sickos and should go to the loony bin...Being horny is one thing, being a psychopath something completely different!
Just because you and others feel guilty and want everyone to pretend it's no big deal doesn't mean we have to lie to you. It's a major deal and only bad people do it, no matter what they want to tell themselves.
@doubl3 - are you responding to my post for a particular reason? I never cheated on anyone in my life, I don't feel guilty, I do not ask anybody to lie to me, and if it's a major deal to you then I respect your pain, I was only trying to put it all into perspective, especially in reference to the film.
Our socialisation determines how we react to 'being cheated on', culture, books, films, TV...it's perpetuating a certain set of values I regard as unhealthy, and I am not claiming to be immune to jealousy, but I know that it is MY problem, and trust can be broken in many other ways as well, and of course that hurts, as I think the lying is much worse than the actual 'having sex with someone else'...
I responded because it's really annoying how common it is now for people to say cheating is "no big deal. It's no different than lying or basically any non-violent crime, as well. Normal people don't like dishonesty and when people say it's no big deal, it just causes more and more people to do it. It is a big deal to mislead or hurt others. If they want to cheat, they should break up, then date whoever.
Agreed, though not necessarily that much less of a big deal or less hurt....though without the dishonesty you have at least that. And people have always cheated, are cheating left right and center, and will always cheat. Depends on the person I guess - the one who cheats to do it and the one cheated how he/she takes it. ..
Yeah he deserved it. I found out my mrs was cheating on me for ten months at the end of our eleven year relationship. We have a young son and it utterly tore me to pieces. It's the most destructive thing you can do. And I think Butler's character had already done it once before and been forgiven. So yes, I think had I done what my ex did to me, I'd have to take what happened to Butler on the chin.
I completely agree. what she said at the end about not feeling good enough etc., it can destroy someone. and it doesn't matter which half does the cheating, it is still cheating and it's breaking the other persons trust and faith and loyalty.. and their whole world for that matter.. if you aren't happy, just leave.
Non one of them (Neil or Tom's wife ) deserved what they went through but if i was Judy unless Tom was an evil abusvive, cruel husband id never choose Gerarad Butler over Pierce Brosnan.
