What would you do?

I would set up hidden cameras all over the house, and tell Judy to do the same. We'd get Ally and Tom to confess and talk about what they did until we had hours of footage. I'd get copies of surveillance footage from everywhere they went that night, I'd get a receipt from the hotel room, I'd get testimony from the guy at the Pawn Shop. Finally, me and Judy would go to see an attorney and explain everything. I'd press any and all charges and hope those psychopaths rot in jail forever.

No good. Neil would be the one spending most of the time in prison, if the others get any time at all. The "dirt" Tom had on him was likely substantial, and Neil consciously attempted murder (doesn't matter that the gun didn't fire or may have been a replica, or that he believed his daughter was threatened). All of it was only real to Neil, as he assumed the details to be real with no confirmation of anything. The child was never at risk. Everything else was petty, including Tom brandishing the handgun, with a clear intent to not harm anyone with it (a misdemeanor, at most). It was a (sick) practical joke, for all intents and purposes. He's better to just make the most of whatever he has left, and focus on the only real victim, Sophie.
