I was just a kid...

Whose dad was a HUGE football (soccer) fan and got to see many of those classic Cosmos games live and in person. I never knew the backstory or the drama behind the scenes, just what I saw on the field.

It was thrilling to see the great Pelé play and to shout out for Beckenbauer or Giorgio. There was such a rush in Giants Stadium which I haven't felt there in a long time.

Ah, I even remember Pelé's last game when he played half the game for the Cosmos and the other half for his Brazilian team, Santos, on 10/1/77. Still have the tickets! Those memories are magical!

Can't wait to take my Dad to see this film and relive the past a little.

Are you serious? He played both games? Were they playing each other or what?

reply

Yeah I remember that game too.
I watched from Chicago on ABC. I was young, 7, and not been exposed to soccer before. I wondered what the big deal was about this Pele guy and I remember when he came out for the second half of the 'friendly' between the Cosmos and his Brazilian team and he switched jerseys at midfield to play with the Brazilian team the second half of the game.
All these years later I still remember his doing that and thinking it was cool.

I grew up watching the Washington Dipolmats at RFK stadium. I still remmber how exciting it was when the Cosmo's played us. It's the only time that I can remember that fans of both teams cheering for the same player, Pele. He was amazing!!
