Why did the wife have a baby picture, baby brush, and Dr Seuss book in her little box? Did they have a kid??

Perhaps they had a baby who then died.
Could it be to show us that she felt she had an empty life with a husband she wasn't in love with any longer and a sadness over a dead baby ?

This is a very good question. I've watched the movie, sometimes in passing, and really never much noticed the items. I think Crawford and his wife must've lost a child at one time. This fact would help explain the difficulties in their relationship.
