How did Crawford know what model of a gun is Nunally carrying?

OK, I have found 1 flaw

How on earth Crawford knew what model of a gun is police negotiator carrying when he went to hotel to swap guns? It's not like he carried 50 model of guns with himself to replace the one that police negotiater has.

reply

He went to the hotel to see what gun he had and then swapped the guns in his house when the officer came in to negotiate

reply

He had gone to the Miramar Hotel before (spying on his wife) and found out what kind of piece that Rob carried.

No, that won't work, because the investigating cop told Willie the gun was purchased a month before the shooting.

The movie is quite clear on it. Ted has a private "dick" following the couple, who manages to ID Nunally's gun model. Ted goes and purchases the same nodel and then we see in flashback him sneaking into their room, to switch the weapons.🐭

Also, most police officers/detectives have standard issue department handguns. Some detective have a backup personal handgun in a secondary holster but most carry thier standard department issues firearm. Not sure what most departments use in real life but in movies it's almost always a baretta. If he can find out what firearm the department isues, then he can likely assume thats what the detective was carrying. This however wasn't a plot point, just an observation of mine.

The cop tells Willie that the gun was purchased by Ted a month ago, so he didn't go to the hotel to see what type it was, he went to swap the guns. He put his same gun there, took Nunally's, shot his wife and switched them again at the house while Nunally's attention was given to his dying wife, laying on the floor.

It's not the first time Crawford saw his wife and the detective, that they are together. And before this day, (about a mont ago) or even before, he saw them and probably saw what kind of a gun he had. Maybe he was waiting for a gun to arrieve for a month, maybe he was thinking how to execute this for a mongh or maybe he was scared and thats why it took 1 month before he does that. Anyway it makes sense to me...

So first he just knows they're going to send in that one cop to his house (even though he was obviously not on duty an hour or so before). Then he just knows the guy is going to rush to his dying wife, like a complete idiot, turning his back on a man who is armed, and leaving his weapon conveniently behind for him to switch.

That's a lot of careful planning based on completely random actions.

He said he had a private investigator, so maybe that was a detail he found out? I don't know, but that was a major flaw for me too.

There are aspects of Crawford's character which are made evident at the beginning of the movie, one of which is that he does his homework. I think it not difficult at all to determine what kind of gun Nunally had.

Also, the scene at the beginning of the film shows him telling the staff he was right about a flaw he had found, foreshadowing his tendency to study people and find their flaws. He phoned for Nunally and was told he came on at 6, so he knew he would be the likely negotiator.

Yes. Good.
